It is no secret that apple cider vinegar has its share of proponents who see it as more than a type of vinegar. Being that it is a commonly used and consumed food or ingredient makes it even more appealing to alternative medicine practitioners. Just what are some of the health benefits this “wonder drug” is known for? Read on to find out.

First, what is organic apple cider vinegar?

As the name suggests, apple cider vinegar is a type of vinegar that comes from apples. Cider is nothing but apple must, or the crushed state of apples which includes the skins, seeds, and stems. Branding it as organic simply means it has skipped the pasteurization step, which in turn reveals the mother of vinegar—the coagulated part that usually settles at the bottom of bottles.

On to the health benefits

I would probably anger a lot of people it I did not include weight loss in this list. Online, a simple search for “apple cider vinegar” would lead to hundreds of weight loss websites that are out to scam you and sell you nothing but vinegar that you could have bought in the grocery in the first place. It has become too saturated to the point of being branded as web spam.

The truth is, apple cider vinegar promotes or is related to weight loss because it delays our bodies from feeling hungry. Some studies have had positive results, but the direct affects are not scientifically proven. By the way, as with all the other benefits discussed here, apple cider vinegar is taken in a diluted, drink-like form that is mixed with water and sometimes honey for taste.

The same mixture can also be used to treat acne. Vinegar is obviously acidic and a very mild mixture can rid the affected area of oils and dirt. The difference, of course, with this remedy is that the mixture is used topically. One can dab cotton dowsed with a highly diluted mixture on affected acne areas, which should be followed with thorough cleansing.

Organic apple cider vinegar is also known to treat colds and the headaches associated with it. Drinking the mixture while down with the ailment can help restore the body’s natural acidic levels. The same mixture can also be used for steam inhaling instead of water. Its natural composition is better at clearing nasal passageways of mucus.

Although not that known, apple cider vinegar has its user base in the world of arthritis. The way it balances the body’s acidity is also essential in some forms of arthritis, especially gouty arthritis. In these types of ailments, apple cider is consumed on a more regular basis which makes it more of a regimen that controls arthritis symptoms over time.

Brush your teeth

It might sound weird but as a word of caution, always brush your teeth and rinse properly every time you consume even the lightest of mixtures. Vinegar can strip the teeth’s protective enamels that can lead to cavities.
